Released 2020/21 accounts show average match day revenue losses of 83% for English clubs

The real-world impact of Covid restrictions on English clubs whose 2021 accounts have been released shows in average matchday revenue losses of 83% compared to the prior season.

Worst affected include Tottenham Hotspur with a fall of £92.6m (98%) and Norwich (then in the Championship) with a £7.5m loss (99%). Chelsea and Manchester City fared better.

Clubs in the Championship will have felt the losses more keenly as matchday revenues account for a greater share of revenue: 23% on average amongst those in this chart, compared to 16% for those in the Premier League.
