Over 21% of eSports market dominated by newly acquired Activision Blizzard Inc

Over 21% of the eSports market is held by Microsoft’s newly-acquired Activision Blizzard – makers of global leading titles Call of Duty and Overwatch. The deal makes Microsoft a major player in a market it considers strategically important for the future.

Swedish outfit Modern Times Group (MTG), owners of eSports organisers ESL & DreamHack, are second with around 14% market share. Tencent, which publishes League of Legends in China and Pro League and World Championship, is the third-largest player.

Historic leaders Electronic Arts, makers of the FIFA franchise are in fifth, ahead of Nintendo in sixth.
