Price paid for new players down -65% in La Liga, whilst prices soar in Ukraine and Serie B

The average price of players acquired by “Big Five” clubs in the Summer transfer window was down over 37% in 2021 vs 2019.

Spain’s La Liga saw the average price of players transferred into its clubs fall from €6.8m to €2.4m on average, driven in part by the need of some clubs to offload expensive talent to comply with wage bill restrictions.

By contrast, in Italy’s Serie B and the Ukrainian Premier League average incoming player prices rose 200% and nearly 500% respectively, although from a much lower base than bigger leagues.
